Housing and Homeless Services

Neighborhood Place of Puna works to prevent child abuse and neglect in East Hawaii. We know that the instability and stress of experiencing homelessness puts children at higher risks of child abuse and neglect. That is why we are committed to ending child and family homelessness in our community.

Hale’iki Family Assessment Center was founded just one year ago. The buildings were donated from previous Kilauea eruption emergency shelters. There are 9 units used to house families. It is the first and only family shelter in Puna.
Hale Hanakahi was built by community members during the Covid-19 pandemic to house elderly and high-risk individuals in need of shelter and social distancing. Neighborhood Place of Puna is working in partnership with HOPE Services to manage the shelter.
