Introducing Anchor Point Youth Center: A Beacon of Hope for Hilo’s Youth

Spread the love

For many young people facing homelessness or housing instability, finding a safe space and the right support can feel overwhelming. That’s why Neighborhood Place of Puna is proud to introduce the Anchor Point Youth Center, a new drop-in center in downtown Hilo designed specifically for youth and young adults aged 14 to 24 who need a helping hand.

Anchor Point Youth Center is the result of a collaborative effort between HOPE Services Hawai’i, Neighborhood Place of Puna, and The Salvation Army. Together, these organizations have created a space where young people can access critical resources and build a foundation for a brighter, more stable future.

The center was designed specifically for Transitional Aged Youth (14-24) who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. By fostering community, empowerment, and compassion, we help young people take control of their futures.

Why Anchor Point Matters

Anchor Point is built on the belief that every young person deserves stability, support, and the opportunity to thrive. Program Coordinator Minnie Cain shares why this mission is personal to her:

"As a youth, I needed support but didn't know where to start. That's why Anchor Point Youth Center will be a game-changer for our community, offering essential services and opportunities for young people to thrive. Growing up in a single-parent home and witnessing the struggles of addiction, I know firsthand the importance of having a supportive structure in place. Many youth are still living in survival mode, just as I did, and I'm committed to ensuring they receive the guidance and resources that can help them take control of their lives."
Minnie Cain
Program Coordinator, Anchor Point Youth Center

Minnie’s story echoes the experiences of many youth in our community who are searching for stability and hope. Her passion for supporting young people fuels our mission to make Anchor Point Youth Center a transformative resource.

Anchor Point is here to fill the gap, ensuring no young person has to navigate homelessness alone. Through a network of care, resources, and empowerment, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of Hilo’s youth.
