Ready to Learn School Supply Project
Since 2004, Neighborhood Place of Puna has helped organize the Ready to Learn School Supply Project that has been distributing FREE school supplies to school aged Children and youth living in and around Puna.
The Ready to Learn School Supply Project began with one simple goal, provide basic school supplies to East Hawaii’s at-risk children so that they can begin the school year ready to learn.
For many at-risk children, education is one of the few paths out of poverty. Success in school can lead to success in life. Unfortunately, it is hard to succeed in school when your family can’t even afford basic school supplies like: Pencils, Pens, Paper, Notebooks, Binders, calculators, and even flash drives.
Over 14,000 children have received free school supplies through the Ready to Learn School Supply Project. This has only been possible through the collaborative efforts of community police officers, community associations, service clubs, government agencies, churches, non-profits, businesses and individuals who have worked together to purchase and distribute basic school supplies to our East Hawai’i children.
In July of 2016 we will be holding our 12th annual Free School Supplies Distribution. It cost $16 to fill a backpack with basic school supplies for a child in grades K-6. It cost almost $25 for backpack of school supplies for a youth in grades 7-12.
Please consider making a donation to help a child start the new school year, “Ready to Learn.”
